Less than two years after it was discovered that he had lived with the skeletal remains of his sister and two dogs, 46-year-old software engineer Partha De was found dead here on Tuesday under unnatural circumstances.
Police said his body was found in a “burnt condition” inside a bathroom, which had a half a bottle of petrol and some matchsticks. A preliminary investigation suggested that he allegedly committed suicide. The body was recovered from the apartment located at 15 Wattgunge Street.
In June 2015, he was rescued from his house in upmarket Robinson Street Area. It was the alleged suicde of his father Arabindo De in almost similar circumstances that led to the discovery of the skeletal remains of Partha De's sister Debjani De and two dogs. Partha De was said to have livied with them for six months. The father had allegedly set himself on fire in the bathroom and police retrieved his body.
Several theories floated iabout the mysterious case. DNA tests were conducted on the skeleton and it was confirmed that they were remains of Debjani De. Amidst extensive media coverage, Partha De was taken in police custody and later admitted to a state-run mental hospital. He was released later.
In the charge sheet filed by the police in December 2015, Partha De was charged with trying to tamper with evidence and keeping dead bodies without informing the police. He was charged under IPC Sections 268 (public nuisance) 269 (negligent act likely to spread infectious disease), along with other sections.
