Following a Union Government directive, Coimbatore Corporation will step up the waste collection drive.

Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan said that in all the 100 wards the civic body would step up segregated waste collection. It would begin from June 5 - World Environment Day. To ensure that the waste collection happened in a successful manner, the corporation was drawing up an action plan.

At present, the waste collection efficiency was 80 per cent in some wards and 20 in others. To make it uniform, the corporation was doing its best. Only when the action plan was ready, the corporation would know what were the requirements in each of the 100 wards.

It would then and supply materials like bins and men wherever needed.
