Recently, several Tamil movie fans began flooding their Facebook timelines with videos shot using a popular mobile application called ‘Dubsmash’. The application, launched last year, lets you choose a well-known recorded line from a movie and dubs it over your voice. Fans soon began taking selfie videos and publishing it in their profiles.

The app, available on both iOS and Android platforms, contains popular lines, mainly from television series and Hollywood movies; one can also upload audio content on to it. Over the last few days, the application has been downloaded by many Kollywood fans. They have taken up the task of uploading the more famous Tamil film audio clips.

While lines uttered by comedians such as Vadivelu and Goundamani seem to be the most popular, the heroes weren’t far behind either. Die-hard fans of mainstream heroes were the most active, uploading several videos. “One of my friends from abroad started it and posted in a Tamil cinema group on Facebook. It caught on instantly,” says Arun Shankar.
