Yawning deficit points to govt’s failure: PMK

July 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss has alleged that contrary to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s claims of making Tamil Nadu the number one State in India, the fiscal deficit under her has increased.

In a statement, he said the RBI had described Tamil Nadu as the State with the most fiscal deficit.

Stating that Tamil Nadu’s GDP is half of that of Maharashtra, while the deficit is higher, he said, “In 2014-15, Maharashtra’s deficit was Rs. 37,250 crore. It was reduced by 17.5 per cent in 2015-16 to Rs. 30,730 crore. However, Tamil Nadu’s deficit had grown from Rs. 27,350 crore to Rs 31870 crore.”
