The Department of Human Science, Anna Adarsh College for Women, Anna Nagar, conducted Mrs. Sri Lakshmi Endowment Workshop on ‘Women, Yoga and Cancer’ for the staff and students in collaboration with Satyananda Yoga Centre on July 26. Workshop commenced with the introductory note by the Trustee of Gaanapriya Foundation, S. L. Narasimhan (alias) Yessel.Founder of Satyananda Yoga Centre, Shiva Rishi created a social awareness about yoga and its practices. He stressed on the importance of yoga for healthy living among young women. He taught the various asanas in a very simple manner. The highlight of the workshop was ‘yoga nidra’ wherein there unison of body and mind, which brings about the suspension of the mind’s waves, resulting in mindfulness, which means ability to pay attention to your life.

Radiation Oncologist from Chennai Meenakshi Multispeciality Hospital, Dr. Sumanna Premkumar gave a lecture on Women, Cancer and Yoga. Yoga Therapist, Vedavalli Parthasarathy, spoke about her own experiences about the value of yoga in cancer. Valedictory address was given by violinist Padma Shankar, which was followed by distribution of certificates for participants.
