The Highways Department will begin work on two flyovers on Periyar EVR Salai-Nelson Manickam Road junction in January.
The government recently approved the detailed project report for the two facilities that would be closely located on the stretch.
Officials of the Highways Department said one of the flyovers would begin from Periyar EVR Salai before Anna Arch and land on Nelson Manickam Road, taking an L-shape.
The other would begin on Periyar EVR Salai near Nelson Manickam Road and end on the Anna Arch Road in front of the Arignar Anna Government Hospital of Indian Medicine. The facility would include a loop that would land near the hospital's medicinal farm. Motorists proceeding towards Parry's Corner from Nelson Manickam Road would take the loop ending on the Anna Arch Road and join the traffic on Periyar EVR Salai.
An official said tenders would soon be floated for the Rs.117-crore project. Of the total cost, Rs.40 crore has been set aside for land acquisition.
A major share of the lands to be acquired is from government agencies. Anna Arch would be relocated 50 metre further down on the road to accommodate the flyover.
