Police claimed to have solved the mystery behind the murder of a businessman, who was found dead in his house on Tuesday. His wife has been charged with the murder.
S. Akbar (49), a wholesale iron dealer from Krishnan Koil Street, Mannady, was staying on the third floor of a house with his family.
A senior police officer said that on Tuesday morning, his wife Fathimamuthu summoned the neighbours after Akbar failed to come out of his bedroom despite repeated calls. The neighbours broke open the door and were shocked to find Akbar lying dead in a pool of blood on the bed.
The North Beach police were alerted. They retrieved the body from the house and sent it for post-mortem.
The police registered a case and started investigation into the murder. While questioning the family members, suspicion fell on his wife as the couple were known to quarrel with each other frequently over Akbar’s alleged illicit relationship with another woman.
Police claimed that Fathimamuthu confessed to murdering her husband by slitting his throat with a knife, because she was infuriated by his refusal to put an end to the affair.
Police also recovered the murder weapon.
