Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan has urged the Tamil Nadu Government to revisit its policy decision for issuing community certificates in respect of Scheduled Tribes (ST) in the State.

Speaking at a demonstration organised by the Irula Tribes Protection Association in front of the Villupuram Collectorate on Saturday, he said that obtaining community certificates was still a struggle for STs.He said the process to get a community certificate was more tedious in Tamil Nadu when compared to other States.

He pointed out that 3% people obtained fake SC/ST certificates and availed themselves of jobs in banks and other public sector undertakings in the State, according to a recent report. However, no action was taken and the process continued to remain tedious for STs.The government should arrange for the speedy clearance of community certificate applications, he added.
