Run, walk or sponsor this event which is being conducted to raise funds for a breast cancer research foundation

The incidence of breast cancer is increasing in India. What is required today in the battle against breast cancer is developing an effective and affordable approach to early detection, diagnosis and treatment.

Towards this end, Chennai Breast Centre, headed by Dr. Selvi Radhakrishna, and Penn Nalam, an NGO, headed by Radhika Santhanakrishnan, have come together to launch the Chennai Breast Cancer Research Foundation (CBCRF) Hospital.

The tertiary non-profit breast cancer care facility will be a pioneer centre for research and development, training and capacity building in breast cancer care, said a release. The Foundation is committed to providing breast cancer care to the underprivileged, free of cost.

Fund-raising drive

As part of raising funds for the hospital, Madras Mustangs, a group of fitness enthusiasts, is organising a fund-raising run/ walk on August 20. One can run, walk or sponsor the event. There are three categories to the event — 10k, 5k and 2k.

If youa re a seasoned runner, you may go in for the 10k run. If you are regular with your fitness walks, you can pick the 10k or 5k walk or also make an attempt to run. If you are a senior citizen comfortable with short walks, we have the 2k designed for you, says Sairam Ramaswamy and Archana Ramanakumar of Madras Mustangs.
