Wage talks: transport unions hopeful

March 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

The third round of talks between officials of the transport department and representatives of trade unions, for discussion of various demands, including wage revision, took place at the Metropolitan Transport Corporation training centre in Chromepet on Friday.

The talks, though inconclusive, ended on a note of promise for the 1.5 lakh workers attached to the seven transport corporations in the State. The next round of talks will be held on March 30.

Trade union representatives said the committee formed to discuss their demands had agreed to consider many of them — mostly pertaining to contract employees and their allowances.

M. Shanmugham, general secretary of Labour Progressive Federation, said they had insisted the department implement the scheme of things agreed upon during the last two rounds of talks.
