V.S. Sirpurkar appointed to V-C search panel

Governor-Chancellor Banwarilal Purohit has appointed V.S. Sirpurkar as the convenor of the Vice-Chancellor search committee of the Anna University.

Mr. Sirpurkar is a retired judge of the Supreme Court, which he served for four years from January 2007 to August 2011. He has also served in the Madras High Court.

A notification to this effect would be issued shortly said Higher Education Secretary Sunil Paliwal. The State government’s nominee is N. Sundaradevan, a retired bureaucrat and the Syndicate’s nominee is R. Gnanamoorthy, mechanical engineering professor of the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras.

Anna University’s Vice-Chancellor search committee has been reconstituted thrice so far.

The first search committee headed by M. Baskaran, V-C of Tamil Nadu Open University was dissolved after the then Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao rejected the panel of three names that the committee provided.
