Vocational counselling for engineering admissions

On the penultimate day of vocational counselling for engineering admissions, all seats for boys in the Open Competition, Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes categories have been filled up, with only seats reserved for the children of ex-servicemen left in the BC and MBC categories.

V. Rhymend Uthariaraj, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2010, said a total of 3,676 seats had been taken by students and 337 seats were still to be taken. In co-educational colleges, 183 seats were left, while 154 seats were still available in women-only colleges.

For boys, one seat each reserved for ex-servicemen's children was available in the BC and the MBC categories. In the BC-Muslim category, 47 seats were available, 53 in the SC-Arunthathiyar category, 55 in the Scheduled Castes category and 26 in the Scheduled Tribes category.

In women's colleges, 46 seats for OC, 43 for BC, 33 for MBC, 5 for BC-Muslim, 24 for SC and 3 for SC-Arunthathiyar were still available. The ST quota was already filled up. Until Friday, there was an absentee rate of 25.66 per cent this year, Dr. Uthariaraj said.

He added it was the usual rate each year for vocational counselling.
