The recent opinion polls by certain media houses, which predicted favourable outcomes for the Dravidian majors in the May 16 Assembly polls, were not real opinion polls but opinions which were thrust on the people, DMDK leader and third front chief ministerial candidate Vijayakant charged at a public meeting here on Sunday.

Referring to the results of two opinion polls conducted by media houses, the actor-turned-politician said they were not karuthu kanippu (opinion polls) but karuthu thinippu (thrusting of opinions) and people of the State would not be carried away by them.

The six-party third front alliance was no stranger to the people Mr. Vijayakant said and delivered a punch line, “Naangal aaru mugangal. Aaarumugangalukku endrume eerumugam thaan (We are six faces and from now on it’s only eerumugam [success] for us)” prompting whistles and claps from the gathered crowd.

‘A turning point’

Like the way former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai scripted a turning point in the political history of Tamil Nadu by bringing the Congress rule to an end in 1967, his alliance would bring about a “turning point” in this elections and put an end to the misrule of both the Dravidian parties, Mr. Vijayakanth claimed.

A coalition government was to be welcomed, he said and hoped that a coalition government led by him would come to power in the State.

Referring to the statements made by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in a public meeting on Saturday, Mr. Vijayakant said it was the DMK and the Congress which were corrupt and they were now talking about ending corruption in the State. Mr. Vijayakant later sought votes for G. Bheem Rao, CPI (M) sitting legislator in Maduravoyal.
