VHP petition against Uttama Villain dismissed

April 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - CHENNAI:

In a relief to the producers of Kamal Haasan-starrer Uttama Villain, scheduled for release this Friday, the Madras High Court has dismissed a petition by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), which sought to restrain the film’s screening, contending that a word in one of the songs hurt the sentiments of Hindus.

When the case came up for hearing on Monday, Justice T. Raja said that the court found “no error” in the film as claimed by the petitioner. As the court was not able to find any merit in the writ petition, it dismissed the plea.

The petition had submitted the lyricist, who penned the songs for the film, had not understood the Hindu religion and a word used by him in one of the songs would hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
