The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi has announced that it will stage a protest in Chennai on July 2 to urge the Tamil Nadu government to bring the crime rate under control.

In a statement released here on Wednesday, party leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, citing the murder of Infosys employee S. Swathi and a mother and her three daughters in Chennai, alleged that crimes that specifically target women have increased in the State.

“We urge that Tamil Nadu government take swift action against hired killers.”

Mr. Thirumavalavan alleged that the government has been arresting members of the VCK under the garb of cracking down on hirelings.
