To commemorate the Chief Minister’s 66 birthday, University of Madras organised a mega job fair for its students recently, wherein several postgraduates and research scholars found jobs with multinational companies.
The event, said University officials, was specially organised for students of life sciences and niche branches of studies that usually fail to attract recruiters.
“We see many students of life sciences taking up IT jobs half heartedly. This time, the focus was on getting recruiters in their areas of study,” said G. Ravindran, secretary, University Students Advisory Bureau.
Many more to comeHe said the fair, a first of its kind in many years, was the beginning of a series of job fairs for students of the University.
Among the recruiters were HCL Technologies, TNQ Publishing, Sutherland, M.V. Hospitals and Just Dial.
The next job fair, Prof. Ravindran said, would be for students of life sciences.
“We have many students who have done research in bio-chemistry and bio-informatics, and are looking for research-oriented jobs in the industry. We have managed to find about ten recruiters for them,” he said.
Offer letters soonOver 70 students, University officials said, had managed to get job offers from companies. “Of these, 66 will receive their offer letters from the University vice-chancellor soon,” said Prof. Ravindran.
