A 17-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging in her house in Vyasarpadi, allegedly because she did not score enough marks in the Plus Two examinations.
According to the MKB Nagar police, Priyanka, daughter of Thyagarajan, a Chennai Corporation staff was studying in a private school in Broadway and had opted for the commerce group. She had scored 819 out of 1200 in the public exam.
“On Wednesday morning, her parents and brothers had gone for work. She went to check the exam results. She came home around 10.30 a.m. and went into her bedroom. She closed the door and hanged herself using her dupatta,” said a police officer.
A little later, her cousins came home and found the bedroom door locked. When there was no response, they took the help of an auto driver to push open the door. “They found her hanging and brought her body down, and rushed her to a hospital where she declared dead upon arrival. No suicide note was found. We suspect she was depressed about results,” said the officer.
