A two-month old girl died after her mother accidently dropped books on her while cleaning the house.

According to the Avadi police, the incident took place around 2 p.m. on Friday when the infant, Vaishnavi, was asleep on the floor of her house in Ramdoss Nagar, Avadi.

Her mother, Valarmathi, was cleaning the house. While dusting the almirah, she accidently knocked down a few books placed on top of it, and they fell on the child, injuring her badly.

Valarmathi immediately informed her husband Satish Kumar, a phenyl seller, over the phone.

He rushed home and the couple took their child to the government children’s hospital in Egmore where doctors pronounced the infant ‘brought dead.’

Vaishnavi was the couple’s second child, a police officer said.
