After two years, residents of Chennai will once again get daily drinking water supply.
Announcing this in an official press release, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday said that the combined storage level in the city’s principal reservoirs of Poondi, Red Hills, Cholavaram and Chembarambakkam stood at 9,053 million cubic feet. Along with water generated in the two desalination plants in Minjur and Nemmeli and also with water supplied to the city through New Veeranam scheme, the government will be able to supply 830 million litres of water a day, Ms. Jayalalithaa said.
With the completion of water supply improvement schemes in Avadi, Ambattur and Ullagaram – Puzhuthivakkam, residents here will start receiving drinking water through pipelines, Ms. Jayalalithaa said.
