October 19, 2013 02:16 am | Updated 02:16 am IST - CHENNAI:

Two young motorcycle mechanics were found dead inside their workshop in Asthinapuram, Chromepet on Friday morning. Police suspect the duo suffocated to death as the small shop lacked ventilation.

The victims were Pawan Kumar (20), a native of Vandavasi and his colleague Praveen Kumar (18) of Srinivasa Nagar in Chitlapakkam.

They were found at a workshop owned by Pawan’s brother Karthik (22), a resident of Jyothi Nagar, Chitlapakkam.

On Thursday evening, the three men had worked on a client’s motorcycle. While Karthik left the shop in the night, Pawan and Praveen stayed behind. Karthik arrived at the shop on Friday morning but the shutter was locked from inside. He called out, and when the two youths failed to respond, he and a few other men broke open the shutter and found the bodies.

A preliminary probe revealed that the youths slept inside after bringing down the shutter. As the workshop did not have any windows they suffered breathing difficulties and died inside.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.
