Two men were killed in separate accidents early on Wednesday morning in Tirusulam and Meenambakkam on Grand Southern Trunk Road .
In the first accident that took place on the flyover opposite Chennai Airport, a 31-year-old man was killed when the car he was driving rammed a stationary lorry. Traffic police said Subramani of Nagapattinam was working as a driver in a private travel agency in Egmore.
He had dropped a passenger at Tambaram and was returning to the city. Around 3.30 a.m., he rammed the stationary sand-laden lorry that was parked on the margins of the flyover. Police said the lorry had broken down and its driver was waiting for help to set it right. Subramani was taken in a government ambulance to a private hospital in Chromepet, where he succumbed to injuries two hours later.
In the other accident that took place an hour later, Perumal (40) died after he sustained critical head injuries after an unknown vehicle hit the motorcycle he was riding.
A resident of Nanmangalam, he was on his way to Guindy when the accident took place. Police said a speeding vehicle hit his motorcycle near Officers' Training Academy and sped past. Perumal died instantly, police added.
