Mambalam police on Thursday arrested two persons including a juvenile, for sexually assaulting a three-and-a-half-year-old girl and attacking her.
Police said a teenager and his employer Sadique (28), who runs a garment showroom on Ramanathan Street in Mambalam, had allegedly assaulted the child when her mother, who is a friend of Sadique’s, left the girl in the shop and went out on Wednesday. She returned in the evening to find her daughter crying. There were visible injuries on her face and other parts of her body.
The mother took her child to the Government Children’s Hospital in Egmore, where she is undergoing treatment and is now stable. Hospital authorities alerted the Mambalam police who questioned the child’s mother. However, the mother told them that she had hit the child, causing the injuries. But later she confessed to having left her daughter at the shop. Doctors at the hospital confirmed sexual assault. The duo has been remanded to custody.
