The dumping of two mega container-like metal structures on a narrow residential street in Kotturpuram is causing inconvenience to residents.

The metal containers dumped near the junction of Pondicherry Street—4th Main Road were not only causing traffic jams in the area but also contributing to water stagnation, say locals.

Complaints submitted

The residents have petitioned the authorities, including the Chennai Corporation and the police several times, but no steps have been taken to remove the containers.

S. Krishnan, a resident, said the containers were placed near the bund of the Adyar river seven months ago.

A senior official of the Chennai Corporation said they were not containers but barges meant to be used for desilting of the Adyar river. As the river falls under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department, it has to take steps to remove the barges, the civic official said.
