Soon tourists to Tamil Nadu could be tracing the lives of the Chera, Chola, Pandya and Pallava kings. Trips covering their seats of power, ports where trade flourished and the architectural wonders they created are to be launched by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC).

Speaking to mediapersons at Mamallapuram, Tourism Director A.C. Mohandas said the ‘Heritage and Historical Circuit' would most probably be launched from Kanyakumari. “A historian from the Madurai University has already done the preliminary work and we expect the circuit to be launched in six months,” he said.

Mr. Mohandas said there were hundreds of historically significant spots all over Tamil Nadu, which throw light on the Tamil culture that the department planned to showcase to tourists. Earlier, Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan, who launched adventure sports facilities at the TTDC's Beach Resort in Mamallapuram, said that in the past three years tourist arrivals in the State increased by 22 per cent every year.

The annual Mamallapuram Dance Festival, sculptures and temples were major attractions for foreign tourists. The Department was in the process of renovating amenities at the TTDC facilities at various tourist destinations, he said. The new sports park would have facilities for net cricket practice, sand surfing and wind surfing.
