S. George has been posted as ADGP of Prisons

The Election Commission on Monday transferred S. George from the post of Commissioner of Police, Chennai, and appointed J.K. Tripathy in his place.

Mr. Tripathy, an IPS officer of the 1985 batch, is now Additional Director-General of Police of Prisons. He had earlier served as Chennai Police Commissioner during 2011-12.

Mr. George was posted as ADGP of Prisons.

Mr. Tripathy, a native of Odisha, was the recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2008. The Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management honoured him with a gold medal for Innovations in Governance in 2002, while the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Toronto, Canada, awarded him the International Community Policing Award for 2001.

During Mr. Tripathy’s tenure as Police Commissioner, the city witnessed two sensational bank robberies. Five suspects, who were allegedly involved in the crimes, were killed in an encounter in February 2012.

The appointment of a new police chief comes two days after the Election Commission ordered the posting of Anoop Jaiswal as DGP (Elections).

Santosh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Headquarters, Greater Chennai Police, has been posted as Superintendent of Police, Namakkal district.
