A five-day training programme on the latest rulings with regard to criminal law for police personnel in the rank of Inspector and Deputy Superintendent of Police was inaugurated on Dr. Ambedkar Law University premises here on Friday.
Inaugurating the programme, R. Regupathy, Judge, Madras High Court, said whenever a case was registered those in the rank of inspectors of police sought the help of their subordinates to take up investigation. When the case is presented in a court of law it was the inspectors who would be summoned. So, it was necessary for them to update their knowledge on the criminal laws.
In his welcome address S. Sachidhanandam, Vice-Chancellor of the Dr. Ambedkar Law University, said it was for the first time a training programme for police personnel was conducted with the support of Bureau of Police Research and Development. A total of 30 personnel would be trained in the first batch Prof. Sachidhanandam said and added that more such training programmes could be organised during summer.
D. Shankar, Head of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Administration of the University also spoke.
