When and where are women harassed the most in the city? Many women feel it is while travelling on public transport.

This was the outcome of a six-month-long survey by Survival Instincts, an authorised provider in India for American Red Cross health and safety training programmes.

“We conducted an oral survey with 2,790 women and 84 per cent said they had faced harassment while using public transport,” said Anoop Madhavan, chief executive officer.

A total of 96 per cent said that they had faced some kind of harassment while commuting. “Women walking on the road, carrying groceries, topped the list of victims, followed by women travelling in taxis and autorickshaws, bus and trains,” he added.

‘Help her travel safe’, a women’s safety campaign marking the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women was also launched on Sunday.

On Sunday, a massive rally was held on the Marina Beach by Survival Instincts in collaboration with Round Table of India and MART 100. Over 2,000 students participated.
