Coping well with a new syllabus, students of Chennai Corporation-run schools gave a stellar performance in the class X examination, the results of which were released on Monday.
They secured a pass percentage of 86.94 as against the average of 86.2 percent in the State. Of the 9,313 students who appeared for the examination, 8,097 passed. Mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy said the improved pass percentage is a harbinger of excellent results in the coming years.
D. Anandhi, the topper, secured 490 marks out of 500. She is a student of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School in Saidapet. Her next goal is to join an engineering college after plus-2, she said. Duraikannu, her father, said he would persuade his daughter to appear for the Civil Services after completing engineering and MBA.
Expressing her willingness to serve people by becoming a civil servant, Anandhi said her school had the infrastructure to facilitate better performance.
The second and third rank holders echo her views. S. Suganthi, who scored 488 marks, wishes to join a top engineering college after school. “After engineering, I want to become an IAS officer,” she said. Suganthi is a student of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, M.H. Road.
Third-rank holder L. Pavithra, who scored 486 marks, said she wanted to become a civil servant after a degree in engineering from Indian Institute of Technology. Pavithra, too, is a student of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School, Saidapet.
A total of 797 students from Corporation schools secured more than 400 marks. The pass percentage of girls was 90.35 while boys secured a pass percentage of 82.99.
