The police have apprehended three juveniles on charges of stealing motorcycles parked in several parts of the city.
Last Tuesday, P. Ganesh of Perambur lodged a complaint with the Anna Salai police station, alleging that he found his motorcycle missing when he returned from shopping at the Express Avenue mall in Royapettah.
He had parked his vehicle near the mall.
A special investigation team was constituted under the Crime Inspector of Anna Salai, and launched a hunt to trace the offenders. While conducting regular checks on the vehicles near the junction connecting Bharathi Salai and Chellapillayar Temple Street, a trio came on a motorcycle. The boys sped up when the police personnel asked them to stop. Later, the police personnel chased them and caught the boys.
Investigation revealed that they were all 17 years old and were riding a stolen motorcycle. According to the police, further interrogation disclosed that they had jointly stolen motorcycles parked at Sembium, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Egmore, Ambattur and Royapettah.
The police seized eight motorcycles from them. The boys were detained in a special home meant for juveniles who are in conflict with law.
