A Class IX student fell from the terrace of a housing board building in Ayappakam and died on Saturday evening.

According to the police, Mahendran, a daily wage earner, lives in the Tiruvallur flats, a housing board building in Ayappakam. There are around 650 families living in the three storeyed apartment complex. Mahendran’s son Dinesh, 14, a student of a private school nearby, and his friends had the habit of catching pigeons that gather on the terrace of the building complex.

On Saturday evening, he went up to catch some pigeons, but the door to the terrace was locked. “He attempted to climb by grabbing hold of a sun shade, but, he slipped and fell,” said the officer.

He was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
