A software engineer was stabbed to death by his roommate following a dispute over a missing gold chain from their house in Padi on Friday.

The police identified the victim as M. Babu (30) of Vaniyambadi, an employee of an IT firm.

He was living with his friends, including the accused Arokiya Subash (24), in a rented room on the terrace of a house in Yadava Street, Padi.

Subash is a contractual employee with a private firm. Three days ago, a three-sovereign chain belonging to Babu went missing from the room.

After searching the room, Babu asked Subash about the chain and the conversation turned into a heated argument.

On returning from work at 3 a.m, Babu again asked Subash about the chain.

Enraged, Subash pulled out a knife and stabbed Babu, who died on the spot.

The Korattur police recovered the body and arrested Arokiya Subash.
