Swathi’s murder has shaken the collective conscience of the city.
At a candlelight vigil in memory of Swathi held on Sunday, people from all walks of life not only expressed their solidarity with the family, but also raised some crucial questions about the safety of women in general and train commuters in particular.
While echoing and amplifying the family’s concern for the reputation of the victim, participants also called for increased sensitivity among the public to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
Visible policing and speedy justice were the other demands made by most participants.
