TAG-VHS Retina Centre inaugurated

Centre will make available sophisticated eye care to needy

The TAG-VHS Retina Centre that will make sophisticated services in eye care available to the needy was inaugurated at the Voluntary Health Services (VHS) Hospital in Taramani on Sunday.

Funded by the Tag Group of Companies and Ramu Endowments, the centre is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including a spectral domain optical coherence tomography scan, an ultrasound scan machine and a laser machine.

Replicating the model

Inaugurating the centre, N. Murali, Co-Chairman, Kasturi and Sons Ltd, said there was a need to replicate the VHS model in all the States since it provided affordable, high-quality medical care. He commended doctors, donors and well-wishers for their contributions to the growth of the VHS.

VHS Eye Department HoD S. Parthsarathy recalled how the centre had been run on borrowed instruments since patients from 10 centres of VHS had to be treated. He said the Rotary Club of Madras South had agreed to be their service partner and to bear the cost of serviceables.

Tag Group’s R.T. Chari said that the only condition his family had while supporting this project was that it be finished by March, 2017. The project aims to treat at least 500 people free of cost in five years time, he added.
