The cab driver was detained and questioned by two policemen, while on his way to drop a group of women employees

The family of a person who committed suicide in his house in Nanmangalam near Tambaram on Friday evening has sought videography of the post-mortem.

The body is currently in Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital.

On Sunday, parents and other family members of 29-year-old G. Rajiv Gandhi approached the Pallikaranai police to conduct an enquiry into the events leading to his suicide.

They alleged that two policemen had acted extra-judicially in detaining Rajiv on Thursday evening, when the cab driver was on his way to drop a group of women employees at their homes in and around Medavakkam.

Madipakkam traffic police investigators and the Pallikaranai police said Rajiv had consumed liquor prior to driving the car.

However the contention is over whether the two policemen were within their rights to detain and question Rajiv.

His family alleged he felt humiliated because of the nature of the enquiry and took the extreme step.

Rajiv’s father Govindan said one of the policemen was on casual leave and the other was a station writer.

Technically, neither of them had the right to detain and question Rajiv.
