Singer Suchitra on Saturday submitted a fresh complaint to the grievance cell at the office of the Commissioner of Police alleging that fake Twitter accounts were created in her name to spread defamatory posts on celebrities.
In her complaint, Ms. Suchitra said, “On March 2, my Twitter account (@suchitrakarthik) was hacked by an unknown entity and highly compromising images, videos and comments about celebrities from the film industry were tweeted. Threats of future releases were also tweeted. I was unwell at the time and was not able to deactivate my account... My husband, Karthikumar, got the account deactivated by getting in touch with the head of Twitter India.”
“Immediately, 40-50 ghost accounts sprung up, claiming to be my temporary accounts circulating all the content again with the hashtags ‘#leelai’ and ‘#suchileaks’. Some of the fake IDs are still active.” she alleged. She said there were as many as 40-50 more such pages.
Seeking action against those who spread the false information, she said her email IDs had also been hacked and in the first week of April, several derogatory emails were sent to various persons in the industry.
