Sub-Inspector held for hoarding, selling ganja

22 kg of the contraband seized from his house

A Special Sub-Inspector of Police, attached to the Fort Station, was arrested on charges of possessing ganja at his residence in the police quarters in Royapuram.

The accused, Sundaravadivelu (51), is also facing corruption charges, police sources said.

Following a tip-off, Deputy Commissioner of Police, S. Selvakumar formed a special team under an Inspector to raid the residence of Sundaravadivelu.

The special team found 22 kg of ganja hidden in a bag.

Took it from a peddler

The SSI was brought to the police station and interrogated.

He told the investigators that the ganja was seized from a drug peddler during a raid and that he illegally stocked the contraband.

Sundaravadivelu was booked under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. He was produced in the court and remanded in Central Prison, Puzhal.
