Students to get provisional marksheets on results day

April 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

From this year onwards, students will not have to struggle to get their mark lists attested by their schools.

Instead, the Department of Government Examinations will issue provisional marksheets on the day of the results.

Students can make all necessary corrections based on the provisional mark list, which will then be reflected in the final marksheet, which will be issued 90 days after the results, K. Devarajan, Director of Government Examinations said.

So far, students had to take a print out of their mark list and wait for attestation from the school, before submitting it along with the college application form.

On the day of the examination, schools will be able to print and attest the provisional marksheets. After a week, students will be able to download the mark sheets themselves.

“We wanted to eliminate excess traffic on the day of the exam, so the mark lists will be given to the schools on the CD itself,” he said, adding that the final mark sheet will have details of the revaluation as well.

Students and school managements welcome the decision, since thousands of students queue outside their respective schools every year to get their mark lists attested by the principal for admissions.

“My friends and I had to pay Rs. 50 to get the mark list attested last year,” P. Jeeva, an engineering student said.

Principals too, say it will be easier for them. “We have around 400 students in Class XII, so attesting all their marksheets is an arduous task,” B. Purushothaman, senior principal, Everwin Group of Schools, said.

R. Sruthi, whose spelling had to be changed from Shruthi to Sruthi in her marksheet, says the provisional mark list will help a number of students. “The department took around four or five months to make the correction. This will be a blessing for students who have errors on their mark list,” she said.

In the meanwhile, the corrections for class XII examinations will end on Saturday, and results will be announced once the compilation process is completed.
