Next month, students of self-financing engineering colleges across the State, will have to appear for their semester examinations. But they are still awaiting their results from previous semesters.
Anna University’s delay in publishing the results of previous semester exams has created a lot of anxiety among students. “We have already been asked to pay exam fees for the next semester exams. Our practical exams start by mid-April and I am yet to know if I have cleared my fifth semester,” said a student at a private college in the city.
“I am also worried because if I get an arrear in mathematics, I will have a very little time to prepare for, and take the repeat exam,” she said.
A principal of a self-financing college said he had been repeatedly calling Anna University officials to find out when the results would be out. “Two days ago, we were told the results would be out soon. But then they were held back again. These results should have come out by February because the exams were over last December,” he said.
Teachers at several other colleges said students will lose out, as they will have hardly any time to apply for revaluation or rechecking of papers. Final-year students with arrears were the most badly affected, a college placement officer said.
“Many students with arrears have not been able to take the tests given by recruiting companies. Most of them will clear their arrears, but they have missed out on the chance of being employed on campus,” he said.
Anna University officials however said they were in the process of drafting the final results. “There was a delay in making the absentee list. Coordinating data from over 520 colleges is not easy, and we are trying to put a system in place,” an official said.
