A second-year engineering student slipped and fell to his death from an electric train between Chromepet and Pallavaram railway stations on Wednesday morning.

S. Kiran Kumar was travelling on the Tirumalpur–Chennai Beach fast local train when the incident took place. Railway police sources said the youth, son of Senthilnathan, a carpenter in Krishnagiri, was studying at a self-financed engineering college in Kancheepuram. He had purchased a smart phone a month ago and was on his way to Chennai to have the phone’s speaker replaced, and also to buy books required for his studies.

He had boarded the electric train at Kancheepuram. Around 9 a.m., the train was travelling between Chromepet and Pallavaram railway stations. The victim, who was standing near the entrance of the compartment, slipped and died on the spot.

A team of policemen from Tambaram reached the spot, established his identity and later informed his family.
