In the last six months, there has been a steep increase in cadaver organ donations in Tamil Nadu with the message percolating to other parts of the State including Tiruchi, Madurai, Coimbatore and Vellore.

This was due to increasing awareness and willingness among families to donate the organs of their brain-dead relatives, said P.W.C. Davidar, principal secretary, personnel and administrative reforms, Tamil Nadu, at a workshop on Thursday.

Representatives from the southern States and Maharashtra shared experiences on deceased donor transplantation at the workshop. Mr. Davidar said a method of consultation must be put in place for the four States to coordinate.
