The city police have formed special teams to nab 23-year-old Daswant, who allegedly murdered his mother at their house near Kundrathur on Saturday and fled with jewels and cash. In February, he was arrested on charges of rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Mugalivakkam. He was out on bail.

Police sources claim that they are interrogating two persons, James and David, whom he met in jail. Police suspect he would have given the gold to them.

Daswant was living with his parents, Sekar, 50, and Sarala, 40, in Kundrathur.

On Saturday, Mr. Sekar had gone to work and Daswant and Sarala were at home. When Mr. Sekar tried calling his wife, there was no response. Daswant’s phone was not reachable. Hence, Sekar asked his daughter, who lives nearby, to check. She went to the house and found her mother in a pool of blood and her brother missing.

The police have provided security to the girl’s family after Daswant allegedly threatened her father Babu outside the Chengalpattu court.

“We have provided five armed constables from the city police’s Armed Reserve. Four for the house and one for Babu, the child’s father, in case he wants to go out,” said a senior police officer. According to police, the special teams have questioned his friends and relatives and have fanned out across the city. Daswant is facing trial in a Chengalpattu court.
