Sixteen injured in bus accident

Sixteen passengers were injured – two of them suffered multiple fractures – when the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus in which they were travelling rammed one of the pillars of the subway near the Reserve Bank of India office on Rajaji Salai.

Traffic police sources said the accident took place around 9 p.m. According to them, the driver of the bus on route number PP19 bound for Broadway from Kovalam, lost control of the vehicle and dashed against the pillar.

The front portion of the bus was damaged. The injured were admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The stretch of Rajaji Salai from War Memorial towards Parrys Corner was closed for traffic for some time. The vehicles were diverted via Flag Staff Road.
