The Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Kancheepuram district, has summoned the suspended Neelankarai police inspector in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in the station on January 7.The inspector R. Pushparaj was suspended after he allegedly shot the boy during interrogation at his police station. The victim was admitted to a private hospital and is out of danger.
The teenager was picked up while allegedly attempting to break open a temple hundi in Vettuvankeni. He suffered a flesh wound from the bullet fired from the inspector’s revolver and was rushed to Global Hospitals in Perumbakkam.
The crime inspector R. Pushparaj has been asked to appear before the committee at 3 p.m. on February 14. “We will be interrogating the inspector about how the incident happened. We have also called the boy’s mother for inquiry,” a senior member of the CWC said.
He said their aim was to help the boy. “Further course of action will be decided after the interrogation,” said the member.
