Shift police attack victims to Tiruvannamalai hospital: HC

July 19, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - Chennai:

The Madras High Court on Monday declined to issue orders for discharge of the victims of the police attack at Tiruvannamalai from the Government Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital here but directed their transfer to the Tiruvannamalai District Headquarters Hospital.

Justice P.N. Prakash directed authorities to immediately shift the victims to Tiruvannamalai District Headquarters Hospital at the State’s cost. The judge said they could be discharged on the advice of the doctors there. The judge issued the direction when counsel for the victims sought their discharge from the hospital here. The case relates to the brutal assault of a man, his wife and son by three policemen in full public view in Chengam, Tiruvannamalai district, on July 11.

A plea was filed seeking registration of a criminal case against the personnel and their suspension.

Earlier, the court had directed authorities to transfer them to the Government Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital for better treatment and also provide sufficient police protection. — PTI
