Ten passengers were injured after a State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) bus toppled over in the early hours of Monday near Neelangarai.
According to police, the SETC bus was coming from Velankanni and headed towards Chennai. The driver of the bus was Periyasamy (35) and the conductor Anthony Raj (30).
Around 5 a.m., when the bus reached Kanathur near Neelangarai, it hit a sign board. It also hit a load autorickshaw in which Muthumalai (37), a resident of Kanathur, was headed towards Koyambedu. Then it toppled over and ran into the entrance of a hotel.
Ten passengers were injured and rushed to a private hospital. They were treated as outpatients and sent home.

It is painful to know about the accident, but thank God no fatal
casualties were reported. But what concerns us more is why is it that most of the
accidents we hear about in our state involve either MTC buses or SETC
buses? Appropriate measures should soon be taken to identify the point of
lapse, and set it right with top priority.
