City Police Commissioner T.K. Rajendran convened a meeting of officials of 50 public and private banks across the city on Saturday to review the security measures inside and outside the banks.

At the meeting, the Commissioner discussed about safety measures in the banks and ATM counters. He also urged the public not to disclose bank and debit or credit card details over the phone to callers posing as bank officials.

The Commissioner also advised the bank officials to install CCTV cameras inside and outside the institutions, fix burglar alarms, question persons loitering in a suspicious manner in and around bank premises, verify antecedents of private security guards at ATM counters and conduct regular security audit.

Besides, pamphlets and stickers explaining various attention-diversion techniques used by criminals will also be pasted in public places. “This is to educate people so that they do not fall prey to such tricks,” said a senior police officer.
