Sasikala Pushpa

Two days after AIADMK Rajya Shaba MP Sasikala Pushpa sought protection from Parliament alleging that she was slapped by a party leader and was asked to quit her constitutional post, her husband T. Lingesvara Thilagan (54) and son L. Pradeep Raja (21) on Wednesday moved the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail, apprehending arrest.

The petitioners said they feared arrest by the Inspector of Police, Anna Nagar Police Station, for alleged offences under Sections 294(b) (Singing, reciting or uttering any obscene song, ballad or words, in public place), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506(ii) (Criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

“Several persons who have a grudge against Sasikala Pushpa and her political rivals have foisted cases against us. The FIR has been registered against us to put the MP in further distress, and there by put an end to her political career,” the petitioners said.

Assuring that they were ready to offer sufficient sureties and abide by any condition that may be imposed by the court, the petitioners wanted the High Court to enlarge them on bail in the event of arrest.

When the plea came up for admission before Justice S. Vaidyanathan, the judge adjourned the petition to August 8 for the government advocate to get instructions from the authorities concerned.

However, police sources confirmed that no compliant has been received against the petitioners so far or any FIR registered.

Advocate files complaint

An advocate, claiming to be a member of the AIADMK’s Perambalur legal wing unit, preferred a complaint with the Tiruchi city police on Wednesday seeking action against expelled Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa, for making “malicious allegations” in the Upper House with an intention to malign party general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Police sources said no case has been registered yet.
