Election expenditure monitoring officials have seized a sum of about Rs. 6 lakh in Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar in the city on Tuesday, official sources said.
“The money was seized from a two-wheeler in R.K. Nagar by flying squad,” officials said but declined to give more details.
So far more than 100 searches have taken place across the State and money to the tune of over Rs. 55 crore has been seized since the model code of conduct came into force for the May 16 Assembly polls. A senior Income Tax Department official said there was no seizure by their teams on Tuesday.

Persons who have inputs on movement of money suspected to be used for elections can give their information at 18004256669 after which the Income Tax Department would verify and take appropriate action. Complaints to election department can be made directly on www.elections.tn.gov.in . “They can also call 1950, district control room number or whatsapp it to 9444123456,” Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said.
Disclosure of name and phone number was optional and the messages would directly reach the flying squads, which on verifying the input would proceed for a raid, he said.
