The State government has earmarked Rs. 1,250 crore towards free distribution of mixies, wet grinders and electric fans this year.

As a measure of implementing the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's electoral promise, the government has proposed to distribute consumer durables to 1.83 crore women beneficiaries. This year, the plan is to cover about 25 lakh beneficiaries.

Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, in his address to the Assembly early this month, said the scheme would be launched on September 15 on the occasion of birth anniversary of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai.

The Civil Supplies Corporation, which has floated bids for the distribution of free scheme, held a meeting with prospective suppliers. The last date for submission of bids would be July 11. The two-cover bid system would be followed and the finalisation of contracts would take place by July third week.
