Traffic was hit for more than two hours near the Dr. Ambedkar Government Arts College on the Erukkancheri High Road in Vyasarpadi on Thursday when over 500 women blocked the stretch, demanding immediate release of free fans, grinders and mixers to them.

Residents said six months ago, the 500 families in Samiyarthotam Colony of Vyasarpadi were informed that the equipment would be delayed due to shortage of this equipment. The residents however, got agitated when they got to know that they would have to wait for one more year as the stock meant for them was given to those in adjoining areas, said S. Devi, a resident.

Protesting against this, women from the locality blocked the road around 7.30 a.m. It took over two hours for police and revenue officials to convince them to give up the protest.
